Ting Cong, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at UPMC Sports Medicine, and Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. He is a surgeon-scientist in orthopaedic sports medicine and metabolic bone, with a specific career interest on sports medicine and overuse-related soft tissue injuries and disorders of the osteochondral organ. Dr. Cong specializes in the care of young and older athletes with sports-related injuries to bones, joints, and soft tissues. His research interests include cartilage failure and the biologic treatments thereof, specifically in the emerging field of skeletal stem cells and in therapeutic opportunities brought forth by their discovery. Through his clinical and laboratory research, Dr. Cong has the intent to leverage both local and systemic biologics which may improve osteochondral health towards the ultimate goal of cartilage repair and regeneration, leveraging technologies in tissue engineering, stem cell therapy, and biologic drug treatment. Dr. Cong is a graduate of Weill Medical College of Cornell University and completed his orthopaedic residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He then went on to complete fellowship training in sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a hybrid clinical fellowship in metabolic bone, hip, and skeletal stem cell research at the Hospital for Special Surgery - Weill Cornell Medicine consortium. Dr. Cong is a committee member of AOSSM and ASES, and is a reviewer of KSSTA, Arthroscopy, AJSM, OJSM, JSES, and JISAKOS.
