Dr. Kanto Nagai, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan, specializing in knee surgery, arthroscopy, and sports medicine. He received his MD in 2007 and completed his orthopaedic residency in 2014 at Kobe University Hospital and affiliated hospitals under the supervision of Prof. Masahiro Kurosaka and Prof. Ryosuke Kuroda. Following the completion of his PhD in 2016, Dr. Nagai spent two and a half years as a research fellow at the University of Pittsburgh under the late Prof. Freddie Fu, where he focused on ACL injuries, in vivo knee kinematics, and knee biomechanics.

An active leader in the global orthopaedic community, Dr. Nagai serves on the Editorial Boards of KSSTA and JEO, and is a member of the ISAKOS Scientific Committee. He is a prominent member of the ACL Study Group, ISAKOS, ESSKA, and the Asia-Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society (APKASS). His research interests bridge clinical and basic sciences, focusing on knee ligaments, cartilage, meniscus, and osteotomy around the knee to improve outcomes for knee injuries and osteoarthritis.

Dr. Nagai’s contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous prestigious honors. He was the recipient of the KSSTA Best Reviewer Award in 2019 and the KSSTA Jón Karlsson Researcher Award for Clinical Science in 2021. Additionally, he has received several traveling fellowships from ISAKOS and was honored as the APKASS-AOSSM Traveling Fellow in 2024.
