Dr. Heath P. Gould is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and head team physician for the UND athletic department. He completed his premedical studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), while also gaining recognition as an all-conference linebacker on the NCAA varsity football team. Dr. Gould went on to medical school at Case Western Reserve University, where he was awarded an M.D. with Honors and Distinction in Research. He then completed an orthopedic surgery residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital (Georgetown University), during which he earned several national research awards including the John D. Kelly Award, Scott D. Mair Award, Joshua Baumfeld Award, and J. Leonard Golner Award, as well as his institutional Roger H. Michael Research Award three years consecutively. Dr. Gould completed two years of sports medicine fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery and New York University, during which he served as an assistant team physician for the New York Mets (MLB), Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL), and New Jersey Devils (NHL). Dr. Gould has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and has delivered over 100 presentations pertaining to his research in sports medicine, while also serving on the editorial board of the Arthroscopy Journal and as a principal reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine. In recognition of his academic contributions to the field of orthopedics and sports medicine, Dr. Gould was selected to the prestigious Forbes "30 Under 30" list in 2022 under the Sports category.
