Eric Bowman, MD

Eric Bowman, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He specializes in the operative and non-operative management of shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle conditions.

Dr. Bowman, a native of Dayton, OH, received his undergraduate degree from Miami University (Oxford, OH), and earned a Master of Public Health degree from The Ohio State University. He completed Medical School at the University of Cincinnati, Orthopaedic Residency training at Campbell Clinic (University of Tennessee), followed by a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.

He is the head team physician and Orthopaedic surgeon for the Nashville Sounds (AAA) baseball team and is a consultant for the Milwaukee Brewers (MLB). He also serves as a team physician for the Nashville Predators, Nashville Soccer Club, and Vanderbilt University, as well as local high schools. He specializes in the care of baseball and softball, football, running, cycling, swimming, and motocross athletes, but cares for athletes across all sports and stages of life.

Dr. Bowman has initiated a multicenter study group researching sport related elbow injuries. He has received grants to study elbow UCL injuries and is engaged in research efforts through Major League Baseball. He also serves as the Associate Director of Research and Sports Education at Vanderbilt Orthopaedics. He was recently named to the board of directors for the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society and is serving as President in 2026.
