Jakob Ackermann, MD

Jakob Ackermann, MD, is a Swiss board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, complex knee surgery, patellofemoral disorders, cartilage restoration, and joint preservation. He is currently completing an ACGME-accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he works with leaders in orthopedic sports medicine and cares for athletes across a broad spectrum of recreational, collegiate, and professional levels.
Dr. Ackermann completed his orthopedic surgery residency in Switzerland and received Swiss National Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology in 2025. His clinical training has included dedicated fellowships in knee surgery and shoulder surgery at the University Hospital Balgrist, University of Zurich, as well as a complex knee surgery fellowship at the Fortius Clinic in London.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ackermann has a strong academic and research background. He previously completed research fellowships at the Cartilage Repair Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School and at the Sports Medicine Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading orthopedic journals and has contributed to international consensus work, book chapters, and research committees.
Dr. Ackermann is an active member of several professional societies, including AANA, AGA, ICRS, and Swiss Orthopaedics. He also serves as a reviewer for multiple journals, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine. His clinical and academic interests are centered on evidence-based, individualized treatment strategies that help patients and athletes return to high-level function.
