Nathan Skelley, MD

Nathan Skelly, MD is an Associate Professor at the Sanford-USD School of Medicine in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Born and raised in Joplin, Missouri, he attended Cornell University, where he majored in Science and Technology Studies, before earning his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. While at Johns Hopkins, he served as the president of the medical school student body and was honored with membership in the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.

He completed his residency at Washington University in St. Louis / Barnes-Jewish Hospital. During this time, he helped create and develop the AAOS Resident Assembly and participated in the Clinical Scholars Career Development program in Chicago, Illinois. Following his residency, he completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital – Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. During this fellowship, he helped care for Harvard University Athletics, the NHL's Boston Bruins, the MLB's Boston Red Sox, and the Super Bowl-winning NFL New England Patriots. He currently serves as the Head Team Physician for the University of South Dakota - Coyotes.

His research has been published in several prominent orthopaedic journals, including:

He has an extensive online video education library focused on many different orthopaedic topics. His primary research interests involve mobile technologies, tissue engineering, and cartilage therapies. For these research efforts, he has received an OREF Resident Clinician-Scientist Research grant and was honored with the WUSTL Resident Research Award. He was a 2026 AANA traveling fellow. He looks forward to using his extensive clinical experience to help patients with their musculoskeletal health.
