Jacob G. Calcei, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon at University Hospitals Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute and Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He holds the Randall E. Marcus, MD Professorship in Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University and is the Director of Research at the University Hospitals Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute.
He is an associate team physician for the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Ballet. He serves as a reviewer for multiple orthopaedic journals and has research interests in joint preservation and cartilage restoration, the use of biologics in treating sports medicine injuries and early osteoarthritis, ACL and meniscus injuries, wearable technology, and injuries of the shoulder and elbow in overhead athletes. He also has a particular interest in injury prevention and finding ways that we can make sports safer while optimizing athlete performance.
Dr. Calcei graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Kenyon College where he was an academic All-American baseball player. He completed his medical doctorate with honors in orthopedic surgery and cellular biology from NYU School of Medicine, orthopaedic surgery residency training at the Hospital for Special Surgery and sports medicine fellowship at Stanford University.
He serves on medical advisory boards for multiple companies including Collamedix, UGen, Lazurite, Hippos and Notus Labs.
