Elizabeth Matzkin, MD is the Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Mass General Brigham and an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. She has developed a nationally recognized, world-class program for female athletes, supported by a robust research portfolio focused on Women’s Sports Medicine. Dr. Matzkin is highly regarded for her excellence in education, research, and patient care, and is deeply committed to mentoring fellows, residents, and students as she helps train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. Matzkin completed her general surgery and orthopaedic residency training at the University of Hawaii, followed by a Shoulder and Sports Medicine fellowship at Duke University School of Medicine. During her fellowship, she served as an assistant team physician for Duke University Football and Men’s Basketball. Prior to building the Women’s Sports Medicine program at Mass General Brigham, she was an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. Her clinical experience includes caring for U.S. Soccer teams and the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team. She currently serves as Head Team Physician for Stonehill College and will also provide care for the NWSL Boston Legacy team.
She is the proud mother of three athletic daughters, which fuels her passion for advancing the care of female athletes. In her free time, she enjoys running, cycling, snowboarding, and spending time with her husband and daughters
