Omar Alexander Protzuk, MD, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health (VCUHS) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. After earning his undergraduate and medical degrees at UVA and VCU, he completed orthopaedic surgery residency at VCU, serving as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Mass General Brigham. His practice specializes in arthroscopic and open treatment of sports-related injuries, including ligament reconstruction, joint preservation and cartilage restoration, shoulder instability, rotator cuff disorders, and shoulder arthroplasty. Dr. Protzuk is an active clinical investigator with research interests in joint preservation, cartilage restoration, ligament reconstruction, and outcomes research. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed and grant funded publications and has presented his research both nationally and internationally. He serves on the AOSSM Early Career Engagement commitee and is committed to advancing sports medicine through research, education, and mentorship.
