Andrea M. Spiker, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon board certified and dual fellowship trained in orthopaedic sports medicine and hip preservation as well as subspecialty certified in sports medicine. She is the Dr. William G. Clancy Jr. Professor in Sports Medicine, Program Director of the UW Orthopedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and Director of the UW Hip Preservation Program. She acts as the Associate Editor of Hip and Thigh for the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Dr. Spiker received her undergraduate degree from Wellesley
College, and prior to entering medical school worked as a speech writer for the NSF in Washington, D.C. and was a Fulbright Scholar in Berlin,
Germany. She received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins University. She then completed two fellowships at the Hospital for Special Surgery – the first in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery and the second in Hip Preservation, during which time she was a Fellow Team Physician for the New York Mets, the New York Rangers, the New York Liberty and St. Johns University Women’s Soccer. She is currently the head orthopaedic team physician for the UW Badger Men’s Basketball team. Dr. Spiker has authored numerous textbook chapters, review articles, and peer-reviewed studies and has given local, regional, national and international presentations in the areas of sports medicine and hip preservation. She is an active member and serves in numerous leadership roles for AAOS, AOSSM, AANA, ISHA, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, AOA, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society and the Forum. She is a host for the Arthroscopy Journal podcast and has been awarded a number of teaching, research and mentoring
awards.
