Dr. Christopher S. Ahmad, MD, is Chief of Sports Medicine, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Head Team Physician for the New York Yankees
Dr. Ahmad is an internationally recognized leader in sports medicine and baseball elbow surgery. He has devoted interest to ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injury and surgery. His clinical practice spans high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, with a focus on performance preservation, injury prevention, and safe return to play.
Dr. Ahmad has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and multiple textbooks in orthopaedics and sports medicine. His work has been presented nationally and internationally. He directs the multi-center elbow UCL reconstruction registry called The Ptich Registry. He is also the author of Skill, a book examining the science and discipline of performance excellence.
Dr. Ahmad serves in leadership roles across professional baseball and organized sports medicine. He has been actively involved in Major League Baseball health and safety initiatives, including youth arm-care and injury-prevention efforts. He is co-founder of the Baseball Health Network and the Annual Baseball Sports Medicine: Game-Changing Concepts Conference, both dedicated to advancing research, collaboration, and best practices in athlete care.
Dr. Ahmad is also a former Division I soccer player at Columbia University, where he studied mechanical engineering.
