John M. Tokish, MD

John M. (JT) Tokish is a Staff Consultant at the Mayo Clinic Arizona, in Scottsdale, where he is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Vice Chair of Orthopedic Research, Director of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship, and was the 42nd President of AANA.
He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, where he was an All-Conference Linebacker, Academic All-American, 4-yr Letterman, and Team Captain. He graduated medical school from the University of Washington, completed Orthopedic Surgical Residency at the University of Arizona, and did his fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Dr. Tokish returned to the Air Force Academy as Chief of Sports Medicine and Head Team Physician until 2009, during which he served 2 surgical deployments to the Middle East. He served as President of the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons in 2010, and joined Tripler Army Medical Center, 2010-2014, where he was Orthopedic residency director. In 2014, he joined the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, and became director of research as well as the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Director until 2017. He is currently at Mayo Clinic Arizona, where he served as the Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the Arizona Coyotes from 2018-2023, and founded the Orthopedic Sports Medicine fellowship, where he remains director. He remained active in the US Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Colonel in 2025. He has mentored over 100 residents and fellows over his career.
Dr. Tokish lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, with his wife Beth of 26 years. They have 3 children, John Jr., Mia, and AJ, and 2 dogs, Gracie and Sox.
