Albert Lin, MD, is Professor and Vice Chair of Education, Residency Program Director, Chief of Shoulder Surgery, Co-Director of the Pittsburgh Shoulder Institute, and Associate Chief of Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Lin specializes in the care of athletes and shoulder conditions, and has extensive experience with shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder arthroplasty, and complex reconstructive and open surgery of the shoulder. Dr. Lin is an active committee member of American Academy of Orthoaedic Surgery (AAOS), American Orthopaedics Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), International Society Arthroscopy for Knee Trauma and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), and was recently inducted to the prestigious Herodicus Society and ASES Neer Circle in 2022. Dr. Lin has currently published over 190 peer-reviewed papers and over 500 abstracts and book chapters related to clinical and basic science research on shoulder instability, rotator cuff pathology, shoulder arthroplasty, and complex shoulder conditions, and regularly presents his research as invited faculty and visiting professor at international, national, and local conferences. His papers have received numerous awards from AAOS, ASES, AOSSM, AANA, and the Arthroscopy Journal. He recently completed two federally-funded NIH (R03, R21) grants as a Principal Investigator related to shoulder biomechanics research in addition to two additional current federally funded grants with the NIH (R01) and DoD as a Co-Investigator related to shoulder instability research. He is actively involved in medical school, residency, and fellowship education, serving as the Program Director of the Orthopaedic Residency since 2022 and was prior Associate Program Director of the UPMC Sports Medicine Fellowship. He has won multiple awards related to education and mentorship of medical students at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is also the head orthopaedic team physician for Duquesne University and Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School.
