Prof. Zaffagnini has authored over 400 international and 90 national publications in orthopaedics and traumatology. He has presented at more than 300 international and national conferences and contributed to 14 books, 50 book chapters, 6 monograph chapters, and 8 educational videos.
His main research focuses on knee biomechanics (native and post-injury), ACL injuries, meniscal allograft transplantation, knee osteotomies, cartilage resurfacing procedures, patellofemoral instability, combined injuries, and revision surgery.
He has held leadership roles in ESSKA, ISAKOS, and SIGASCOT, including President of the Arthroscopy Committee of ESSKA and Scientific Chair of multiple ESSKA and ISAKOS congresses. He is Chief Editor of the Journal of Experimental Orthopaedics and serves on editorial boards of leading international journals in orthopaedics and sports medicine.
Awards and honors include Top Senior Scientist at Rizzoli Institute (2017–2019) and Ambassador for the city of Bologna (2019).
