Michael B. Banffy, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with expertise in arthroscopic surgery and joint preservation of the hip, shoulder, knee, and elbow. He serves as Chief of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Director of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship, and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery within the Cedars-Sinai Health System.
Dr. Banffy earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley before completing medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He completed his general surgery internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a major teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School, followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He then completed a prestigious sports medicine fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, where he advanced his expertise in the care of athletes. An active researcher, Dr. Banffy has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters focused on sports medicine and orthopaedic injuries.
He is an active member of several leading professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, Arthroscopy Association of North America, California Orthopaedic Association, Herodicus Society, and the physician societies of the NFL and MLB.
Dr. Banffy serves as Head Team Physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Team Physician for the Los Angeles Rams. He has also consulted for numerous professional athletes and sports organizations throughout Los Angeles and across the United States.
